Sup party ppl!  After a month of reading all about root and balking, balking, balking, my indecison was just now temporarily let off the hook: Verizon pushed Froyo to me here in DC.  My Dinc announced 'system updates' were available, I followed prompts and now have these specs in About Phone:
Android Version 2.2
Baseband Version: 2.15.00.07.28
Kernel Version: 2.6.32.15 etc..
Software Number: 3.21.695.1

Now, to begin playing with these new features: http://www.htc-incredible.com/tags/froyo-feature

/hopes still not having root (b/c of being a little shy / brickscared) won't bug him quite as much.
