2.1

If I read correctly...2.1 was released for the Moto Milestone (Moto droid) in Bulgaria a number of weeks ago and today in Spain. The thing is, it is a different carrier in a different country for a different manufacturer, so there is no real correlation to that release and a possible release for our update. Verizon is notoriously slow when it comes to updates, frankly they gain no further profit from it so they probably don't really care much. The only REAL information that VZW has released is that it would be Q1 2010, all other information is mere speculation, rumor, or related to other devices.  HTC has said that they released the update (a few weeks ago now) to VZW for testing.

If I were a fortune teller (which I am not) I would wear funny clothes and have a funny hat and I would have to tell you that I don't foresee an official 2.1 release for the HTC Droid Incredible any time within the next few months.  There is just no real reason for ZVW to rush it and they have a lot of new phones coming out for which they must focus resources.

I keep tight tabs on the update news from many different sources and there has been very little buzz about the Incredible (or Hero) lately.  If you are still running 1.5 I would have to say grab a seat and get comfortable...you could be here a while.

Just my opinion of course...update might be tomorrow for all I know.   

While you are waiting you should do some research on root and the rooted 2.1. If you are going to go illegitimate then it would be best to go rooted, IMO. 

"Root" just means that you have root access to your device, to do whatever you want with. It is rather complicated to explain and I have given my oversimplified explanation here before...it is basically administrator access to your device. Once rooted you can access everything on your device and you are free to do whatever you want with it. Loading custom ROMs is one reason that many people prefer to have a rooted device. A custom ROM is built by a ROM chef (some tech nerd. Boy I miss cooking ROMs ) and can include or exclude whatever the chef prefers. I can go on and on and never really satisfy your desire for information so the most useful thing I can do is recommend that you check out as much information on the subject as possible.

The best place to start is xdadevelopers.com It is a development site that is mostly dedicated to HTC devices and there is a wealth of information on the site. I have been reading it for years and I'm not bored yet   They are the ones that rooted the Incredible, of course. Because the Incredible is newly rooted the information base is not extensive yet in the Incredible specific threads but you can read in any of the threads for information and search for specific things that you want to know more about. The HTC Hero is very similar to the Incredible so I spend a lot of time reading through the Hero threads for good tips on trouble shooting and whatever. If you read something and have specific questions feel free to ask...I probably don't know the answer
