Ok, so I got the OTA 2.2 for my Dinc.  There is some really cool stuff, but there are a few thing that, well, kinda suck.  I want your opinion, this is my first post here, wasn't sure if it should go here or in trouble shooting.

First the good.
  • Java, ya, it's fast, no question!
  • Auto update and app management.  Very nice!
  • Pandora.  My BlueTooth controls WORK!  OMG, so been missing this!
  • 270 Rotate.  This is great in Pandora and in the web.  I can charge and landscape at the same time, YAY!

Now the bad.
  • 270 Rotate.  YA!  WTF!  No 270 in YouTube, the media player, OR Flash?  What's the point?!?  Adobe can fix this with a patch, ya, but the internal player in another story.  This REALY feels like a half ass job.
  • Flash 10.1 SUCKS!  Flash light actually WORKED!  Wasn't perfect, but it did well enough.  This version just doesn't work, like at all.  It sucks, can it be selectively downgraded?
  • Apps, apps apps!  As fast as I kill them, random ass apps load into memory.  SUP WITH THAT?
  • Syncing issue.  I get notices of new e-mails, but they don't always show up right away...  Uuuu?  HTC Sense issue?  Am I having to sync twice?
  • Repeat notifications.  All last night it was beeping at me ever 30 min about an e-mail...

I know this sounds like a rant, but I am actually looking for help and work arounds.
I would like to downgrade flash, stop apps from loading randomly, and most of all, how can I stop the repeated beeping from the e-mail notifications.  That is just not ok.

I am seriously considering rooting just to downgrade...  Maybe an alternative build?

I just upgraded this morning but two gripes I have already are:

1. I like to use the phone pad keyboard for texting and they removed the exclamation point and question mark keys. Now I have to go into the punctuation screen to get to them or hold down the #1 key and slide left and right. Big hassle.

2. There is still NO WAY to to disable the auto-locking feature. I don't want to have to go through two steps EVERY time I need to use the phone. If I put the phone in my pocket, I am perfectly capable of pressing the lock button. If the phone is just sitting on my desk all day, I do not want it locked. I'd like to be able to just tap the screen to bring it to life... or if I receive a text or an email, it just pops up without me having to "press and slide" ever time. I HATE THIS!!  Angry

Press and hold the k for the ? and the a for the !.  All buttons have small gray text on the top that you get by holding the button

Nils, thanks for No Lock, great app if it works as advertised.

As for the ! and ? I was aware of holding those keys from the qwerty keyboard but I like to use the "phone keypad" for texting. Before this upgrade it had a ! key and a ? key along the right side. Now they are gone. It was much easier to tap than to press and hold. You see, when I get excited I like to quickly tap a bunch of !!!!!!!!  Grin

Updates:

I started noticing my battery life wasn't so hot, and the phone was slowing down.  Checked my battery usage list and Beautiful Widgets was chewing up a TON (like 80% of my power consumed).  Removed it (found a new widget I really like [Multicon]), and I now am getting great life.

Mail notices.
Well, I am still getting two, but I now understand why (set it to vibrate so I can sleep).  After some back and forth it looks like I am getting notices both from the built in Gmail App, and the built in HTC Mail App.  I can't installer either of them, nor have I found out how to shut one up.

Is no one else having this issue?

I found that the Gmail App seems to be using push (so it's really fast) and lists the subject in the notification, but the HTC App is cleaner, and supports zoom in e-mails.

Eagle, Nils, I tried No Lock, but it made it so I couldn't acknowledge alarms...  have they fixed that?

For me the negative part of the update is the bloatware.  Why the need to add skype and tons of other apps I can't remove or stop from constantly from running without a rooted phone?

My gripe happens during booting.  I find the "Droid" message annoying.  Is there any way to boot up quietly?

Agree with the bloatware. Smiley

Only way to get rid of startup screen is to root and replace it with your own.

I'm with you guys all the way!!! I HATE that they took those two keys away!!! They were so convenient.  Bring them back!!!  And the sprocket button function... why'd they take that away?  Now when I want to go to my stored dictionary, I have to take the long route.

Who can we complain to to get those keys back? Does Google listen to anyone? What can possibly be their reason for removing them??? I am truly perplexed.

Also, is there a way to go back to 2.1?

Eagle Pilot - I would take it up with HTC. I don't think Google has anything to do with the keyboard. Yes, there is a way to go back to 2.1 search this forum and/or Google it...lot's of options.

Thanks Droidman, but the keyboard was changed in the latest operating system upgrade, by Google. I would thing that HTC makes the phone but the touch keyboard is part of the Android o/s.

I really can't find anything good about this upgrade. It loaded the phone with a tone of apps that run on their own and you can't kill and can't delete. I only like the Flashlight and that's it.

I will look into going back to 2.1 unless it will wipe out my contacts/info etc.

Good point. Heck, complain to both of them! Smiley You should not lose anything, although you will have to re-load account information (email, etc.) to get them back. ALWAYS do a backup first!

Blood Blight, do you happen to know how to turn ON repeat notifications? That is the one thing I truly miss about my old phone that is a huge inconvenience on the Incredible...it doesn't remind you every few minutes that you have a new text, missed call, etc.
